Phrase / freɪz / (ফ্রে^ইজ্‌) n [a group of words without a finite verb, especially one that forms part of a sentence ‘the green car’ and ‘on Friday morning’ are phrases.] (কয়েকটি শব্দের সমষ্টি <প্রায়শই এর মধ্যে সমাপিকা ক্রিয়া থাকে না> যা কোনো একটি বাক্যের অংশ): ‘Start slowly’ is the key phrases for the first time marathon runner.

Abide by Sth (phrasal verb) [to accept and act according to law, an agreement, etc.] (কোনো কিছুর প্রতি বিশ্বস্ত থাকা; মেনে চলা): You will have to abide by the rules of the club.

Act on/upon Sth [to take action as a result of advice, information, etc.] (কিছুর উপর কাজ করা): Why did not you act on her suggestion?

Add to Sth [to increase Sth in size, number, amount, etc.] (বৃদ্ধি করা): The wet weather only added to our difficulties.

Abound in/with Sth [to have Sth in great numbers or quantities] (উপচে পড়া; প্রচুর পরিমাণে বিদ্যামান থাকা): The forest abounds in wild animals.

Agree with Sth [to think that something is morally acceptable] (একমত হওয়া; সঙ্গতি পূর্ণ হওয়া): I do not agree with hunting.

Believe in Sb [to trust someone because you think that they can do something well or that they are a good person] (আস্থা খুজে পাওয়া; বিশ্বাস করা): They need a leader they can believe in.

Bear on Sth [to be connected or related to; to influence] (প্রাসঙ্গিক হওয়া): I do not see how that information bears on this case.

Bear Sb/Sth out [to support the truth of something] (<কোনোকিছু>নিশ্চিত করা; সমর্থন করা): The other witness will bear me out.

Bear with Sb [to be patient and wait while someone does something] (ধর্য্য সহকারে কারো সঙ্গে আচরণ করা): Would you please bear with me a little longer?

Blow off [to put out a flame, etc. by blowing] (ফুঁ দিয়ে নিভিয়ে দেওয়া): After dinner, she blew out the candles.

Break into Sth [to enter a building by force; to open a car, etc. by force] (বলপূর্বক প্রবেশ করা): The robber broke into the house at midnight.

Break out [(of war, fighting or other unpleasant events) to start suddenly] (হঠাৎ ঘটা; প্রাদুর্ভার হওয়া): Fighting has broken out all over the city. A fire broke out during the night.

Break through [to make a way through Sth using force] (বলপূর্বক পথ করে নেওয়া): Demonstrators broke through the police cordon.

Break up [to separate into smaller pieces] (বিভিন্ন অংশ ভাগ বা পৃথক হওয়া; ছত্রভঙ্গ করা): The ship broke up on the rocks.

Break with Sth [to end a connection with Sth] (বিবাদ করা): He broke with the party on the issue of Europe.

Burn Sth down [to destroy Sth, especially a building, by fire, or to be destroyed by fire] (<আগুনে>পুড়ে ছাই হওয়া/করা; পুড়িয়ে ফেলা/দেওয়া): The house burned down in 1895.

Burn Sth out [to destroy Sth completely by fire so that only the outer frame remains] (ভষ্মীভূত হওয়া): The hotel was completely burnt out.

Call on/upon Sb [to formally invite or ask Sb to speak etc.] (কারো সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করা): I now call upon the chairman to address the meeting.

Care for Sb 1. [to look after Sb who is sick, very old, very young, etc.] (যত্ন নেওয়া; দেখাশোনা করা): He moved back home to care for her elderly parents.
